Metrograph on Zar Amir’s cinematic journey
A Tribute
in Zero Compromise, Metrograph (New York) presents a tribute to Zar Amir, ALambic’s founder: a writer, director, casting director, producer, and actor whose range has defined a new space in contemporary cinema.
Born in Tehran and based in Paris, Zar received the Best Actress Award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Ali Abbasi’s Holy Spider. From her first short film Khat, made at just 18, to her acclaimed directorial debut Tatami, she has built a body of work marked by courage, precision, and resilience in the face of censorship.
The Metrograph program features a selection of her works and collaborations, including Tatami, Two People Exchanging Saliva, Holy Spider, Shayda, and My Worst Enemy by Mehran Tamadon — in which Zar appears among exiled Iranians confronting the filmmaker as if he were an agent of the regime.
A celebration of an indomitable and exacting artist, the series is presented with the support of Villa Albertine.
